BALLET ROYALTY STAR IN CAPE TOWN CITY BALLET’S ROMEO & JULIET

Feel the love as Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet dance again, with the return of live orchestras.

Ballet, danced to a live orchestra, stimulates every sense. Especially when it’s Romeo and Juliet, choreographed by the legendary Veronica Paeper, who’s the former director of Cape Town City Ballet.

This is one of more than forty ballets, among them sixteen full-length works, choreographed by Veronica Paeper. With her Romeo and Juliet being particularly well known and revered.

Among those dancing the leads are Vadim Muntagirov and Fumi Kaneko, both principals of The Royal Ballet.

“This is my first time visiting Cape Town, South Africa and I’m absolutely loving everything about this beautiful country,” shares international guest artist and principal dancer Fumi Kaneko.

Also taking the lead until 28 August is Hannah Ward who’s making her debut in a principal role as Juliet.

“I feel truly privileged to be dancing the role of Juliet. It’s a role that truly tells someone else’s story. It’s not the more classical Sleeping Beauty or Swanlake, so I feel it’s not as daunting as a role like that technically, but emotionally, I feel a great responsibility to bring her character to life.”

International ballet conductor Jonathan Lo leads the Cape Town Philharmonic which appears at select performances.

Catch the final week of Romeo and Juliet at the Artscape Opera House until 28 August 2022. Tickets available through Computicket.
