KAMINI PATHER GETS HER NEW YEAR’S FITNESS AND FOOD BALANCE RIGHT

Fit foodie Kamini Pather upends the old thinking that you can never trust a skinny chef.

‘She who eats, must run’ is how chef and blogger Kamini Pather reconciles her twin passions of food and fitness. She always played sport at school and figure skated competitively well into her teens. Today she runs – while her career flies.

We joined the Durban-based media personality for a run and to find out what drives and inspires her.

“I love Durban for it’s warm ocean, warm people and because the sun rises really early so one gets to do stuff like this [running on the promenade].”

“I’m training for life but I’m also hoping to run another Cape Town Marathon because it’s hopefully going to be one of the world major’s going forward. My training regime includes me running three times a week and doing two days of strength training.”

Kamini’s gateway into the industry stems from winning Season 2 of Master Chef and then going on to produce a SAFTA award-winning show called Girl Eats World.

Lockdown had her channeling her energy online where she wrote, shot and published her latest e-cookbook about South African Indian home cooking. A dish from which she was about to cook for stylist and friend Candice Robin Drury.

“What I love about Kamini’s cooking is that it’s quick, easy and always so intensely flavourful at the end,” shares Candice.

Kamini offered us a taste of her cooking when she whipped up a delicious bacon-dahl fusion that was incredibly aromatic and as good as it looked.

“For me, an important diet – for life not just for running – is about getting your macro’s in the right amounts. That’s fats, proteins and carbs,” says Kamini.

Her collection of recipes in the new e-book was designed to feed two people with fewer carbs and less sugar – the most sustainable way to eat modern Indian cuisine food everyday.
