LEVEL UP WITH INTERIOR DESIGN EXPERT KAREN STEYN AND CAPITEC

Interior Designer, Karen Steyn from The Home Studio, champions affordable design solutions and shares decor tips to upgrade your home interiors with clever planning and without breaking the bank.

South African interior designer Karen Steyn’s career journey took her from the UK to Hong Kong and then the U.S. and has seen her work on projects of her greatest imaginings. What these grand canvases excited in her, was a desire to make it far more achievable to create the same effect – but in anyone’s home.

We join Karen in her own family home for a grand tour of the space she has crafted to match her own family’s exact needs, utilising her expertise and experience – and her signature, minimalist style. The comfortable, yet uncluttered, space is a showpiece of the knowledge gained living and working in some of the world’s largest cities, where space comes at a premium and smart design is everything.

This experience, along with a passion to encourage design savvy locals and make interior design much more accessible, pushed Karen to open The Home Studio online design platform when she returned to SA. It provides clients with an idea of what they can achieve on a budget big, or small, to take on a decor upgrade with the help of an experienced Interior Designer.  The Home Studio, will come up with a design and a plan which can then be rolled out, as and when the client can afford it.

Through Karen’s work running her successful online business for over a decade, she has learnt a wealth of tricks and tips which she happily shares. It was in her research for The Home Studio‘s online blog, that she came across the Capitec website. They too have some top tips to aid anyone serious about saving for an upgrade in their lives or homes.

Karen explains, “In any levelling up process, you’ve got to think of the forward planning. So, Capitec is offering their clients the same approach, by offering them not only financial planning solutions, but also different savings accounts or ways to save.”

Like all of Karen’s clients, to level up, one needs to have a budget in place before starting a project, as well as a goal which is the design vision. She advises savings for those unexpected occurrences that can happen so quickly on any project.

Capitec understands this, and has a wealth of information and resources to assist in planning.

With experts like Capitec and Karen at the ready to provide the know-how and support you might need, putting a plan into action might be simpler than you think.

We go on, with the mom and busy business owner, to explore her living area, play room, children’s bedrooms and pyjama lounge, while she continues to unpack handy design and saving tips like: don’t be afraid to be bold enough to play with the power of paint; use a light touch with soft furnishings and room dressing; a quality rug does a lot to define a space with minimal clutter and great storage can make even the messiest room tidy in seconds. And most importantly, Karen advocates – first, tidy away what’s there, before adding anything new.

With a home as functional and luxurious as Karen’s, it is clear her tips work.
