THE FLOWER CAFÉ’S BLOOMING BUSINESS FOR PEOPLE WITH A PASSION FOR FLORALS

We visit the Flower Café in Woodstock, where the business has adapted to recent times by creating an incredible floral experience for people with a passion for flowers.

In the late 60’s, founder of Petals & the Flower Café Flower Walker serendipitously found herself opening up a flower shop on the Cape Town Foreshore. Since then, she was challenged to think out of the box and adapt to the impacts of recent times, which led to the establishment of the Flower Café.

The café is a mecca of beautiful blooming buds, pristine decor and sophisticated botanical inspired events for those wanting to nestle their green fingers amongst the foliage.

“Flowers were never in my vision, because I was born to be a teacher. However, through all the things that had happened, flowers came into my life through a florist friend from Stellenbosch,” Flower shares.

Her foray into the industry began with promoting the national flower of South Africa, the protea, and from there her business grew and expanded into what it is today.

Veronique Yankelowits, director of Petals and Flower Café, took us on a tour of the warehouse space where the café is housed. The venue is a wonderland of creativity and beauty.

“It’s curated from an incredible amount of props and decor, and we turned it into this magical wonderland where you can come and become tactile and have the most incredible morning” Veronique shares.

“We took all our knowledge, from what we knew from events and we turned our magical space into something even more magical.”

The warehouse also features a showroom, where mock-up’s are set up to showcase layout and designs for client events.

“What we do here is make people get a snapshot of what they are actually going to get on the day, so they’re able to visualise. Whether it’s a roof centre-piece, or specific decors, crockery, cutlery and glassware,” Veronique shares.

Since its inception, the company has collected an eclectic array of pieces ranging from vases, candles, centrepieces, chandeliers, tables, chairs and more which are on used for their events both locally and internationally.

The Flower Café came from the idea of wanting to offer people a bit of happiness and teach them skills they can use at home when working with flowers.

“We get people to explore their inner self, and learn how to do flowers and all the magical things that come with botanicals and hope that after they’ve been with us, they’ll have something incredible to say about our magical space,” Veronique explains.

At the café you can learn to arrange flowers, press and frame flowers, and create beautiful floral terrariums, with daily Masterclasses happening every day with the best in the industry.
