Shopping for off-the-shelf, luxury brands is fine, but the spoiling is so much greater when it’s tailored to you by local masters of their craft. Capitec Portfolio Marketing Lead, Akhona Booi, knows a good sales pitch is nothing without a top product behind it and so, he invests in quality local style.

With a special event ahead of him, Akhona wanted to ensure that he was dressed for the occasion, that is why he turned to local tailor, Hassan Ali from The Tux Tailor for assistance, and the final product – an Italian slim fit custom suit. It was clear that all Akhona had asked for in his suit had been met, with added touches of quality you only get from a tailor.

“The reason I came to get a custom-made suit is because I’ve got a very special evening that’s planned for tonight. I’m meeting my friend from varsity and we haven’t seen each other for a very long time,” he says.

“We like to look good and we like taking pictures, and this suit is perfect for that. I came to Hassan a couple of weeks ago to take my measurements and to see this suit looking this good, is just incredible.”

Knowing the people who’ve made you a statement piece have invested a lifetime worth of learning into your suit, is a feeling you can’t beat and with the suit complete, the next stop is a trusted barber for a fresh cut.

Supporting local suppliers with your business is its own reward. And after the personal grooming industry was hit hard by lockdown, Natacha Greyling of Hermanos sees things picking up.

To feel fresh before the big evening ahead of him, Natacha is treating Akhona to a pro skin shave. This includes a moisturising treatment, full cut-throat shave that is toned, followed by an eye cream treatment that leaves a client feeling relaxed and refreshed.

“I definitely feel [that] men feel more comfortable these days coming to barbershops and focusing on their skin and their hair,” says Natacha, “they need to take more care of their well-being and their emotional health so, self-care is really important, and with that, you are going to feel so much better about yourself.”

“The experience was great. When Natacha was working on my skin, I’ve never felt anything like that. I really loved every moment of this experience. It is something I will definitely do again,” expresses Akhona.

“In a life where my day is filled with lots of meetings and running around, I always misplace my wallet but luckily, with Capitec’s digital payments, I can simply scan to pay from my app and go on my way.”

This is a city where once you’re all dressed up, you are spoiled for choice on where to go. Though Kurt Schlechter’s proudly South African establishment is stealing all the headlines.

Cause Effect Cocktail Kitchen is a cocktail bar specialising in amazing food and drinks. Inspired by Cape Town’s breathtaking scenery, the bar uses elements of the area’s natural environment in all their drinks.

When Akhona’s mate Olivier Ntumba pulled in, that new suit had the desired effect. Just as the cocktails were about to. The gents were treated to a tapas and cocktail experience.

With the Capitec banking app, you are free to experience more local luxury while never being caught without cash.

“The whole day today, I didn’t have my wallet and with the Capitec app, all you need to do when you pay, you just use ‘scan to pay’, if you’re sending money to someone you just use ‘please pay me’, or you use Samsung pay,” explains Akhona.

“Samsung pay is so easy, you just load your card into your phone or onto your watch and you just tap, and that’s it.”

We are a nation of ingenious people who make an art of most ideas we turn our hand to. So, live better by supporting your local business and others will support you in turn.
