ONE MODERN MOM BLOGGER JUGGLES FAMILY, BUSINESS AND MOTHERHOOD WITH THE HELP OF SIMPLIFIED BANKING
Starting a family proves the mother of invention for Lisa Grouwstra who launched a thriving, woman-owned, social media influencing business.
There are only so many hours in the day, and as a result, starting a family is too often seen as a choice which mothers must make between children and career.
For Lisa Grouwstra, necessity was what ultimately saw her starting a new business while also starting a family. One Modern Mom is her blog all about her journey through motherhood as a young mom to two busy boys, Oliver (7) and Bailey (10 months).
“I started as a blogger six and a half years ago, when my oldest son Olly was born. It was quite a lonely journey for me because I was a young mom and didn’t have many friends who had children,” shares the mom-trepreneur.
Lisa adds, “Olly is wild, active, loves sports and is in grade two at the moment. Bailey is my second child and is just as wild as his big brother. But I love being at home with him and my job allows me to do exactly that.”.
One Modern Mom is an encouraging space for mothers to make friends and get advice, one which Lisa uses to connect with those who align with her vision.
“I’ve always loved sharing a lot about my family, about my kids and my life and journey as a woman. It’s been amazing to partner with local brands, specifically women owned businesses, and through that I’ve learned to create beautiful content working with other creatives in the industry.”
Among Lisa’s growing network of women entrepreneurs is family photographer Sasha West who met Lisa through Instagram. They worked on a styled shoot at Sasha’s farm together and then later landed up falling pregnant around the same time. Needless to say, they’ve remained friends, creating beautiful work together.
We got to spend the morning with the moms and catch Lisa, Sasha and Bailey in action in Cape Town.
“I try to offer moms really valuable advice through being authentic. I try to share the highs and lows of my journey through motherhood and working, and also try to support other moms and women who want to create a wonderful lifestyle for their families too,” adds Lisa.
Even though she works for herself, Lisa shares that one of her most challenging aspects of being a mom is trying to manage her time between working and ensuring that her little ones get all the attention and love they need.
As a family, they adore spending time outdoors but as they can’t always do that, they utilize kid-friendly spaces.
