DJ MO FLAVA STEPS OUT OF THE STUDIO & INTO FREE-FALLING IN CPT

From a childhood in Dube, Soweto to the number one radio show in the nation, Mo Flava was never afraid of flying too high – and friend or fan, he wants YOU along for the ride.

Mo Flava walks the talk in the proud tradition of Bob Mabena, Phat Joe, John Robbie and DJ Fresh. His mix of smarts, heart and charisma have seen him achieve top dog status on Metro FM – and the perks that come with it.

Living it Up

We caught up with him and media professional Luyanda Nene on their adrenaline packed boy’s weekend in Cape Town, which started off at The Westin. A luxury five star hotel overlooking the V&A waterfront.

Splendid as it was, Mo wasn’t planning to soak in the glory from his bathtub. Mo had other plans as he pushed Luyanda out of his comfort zone. That being, an (unexpected) sky-diving experience.

The Ultimate View

Before Luyanda could think twice they were at Skydive Cape Town and after a thorough briefing session were on a plane (Luyanda too despite his apprehension). Fifteen minutes later they were 9000 ft high and ready for their jump. Free-falling at a terminal velocity of 230km an hour, and only pulling their parachute cords at 4000ft makes this an experience for only the brave hearted.

“My heart is literally by my throat. The first five seconds was the most unbelievable thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. That was definitely worth it hey,” exclaims Luyanda.

“That was explosive, exhilarating, adrenaline pumping, out of this world. Mo Flava in the air, waving my hands like I just don’t care,” says Mo who later reflects…

“It’s crazy how sky-diving is similar to life experience and just life in general. Being up there you’ve got to keep your eyes open, otherwise you’re going to miss it all. You’ve got to be in the moment, you’ve got to be switched on, you’ve got to take the risks, but knowing that whatever you are there to do is going to be worth it and worthwhile.”

Adventure Kayaking & Tandem Biking

The fun didn’t stop there. The friends next stopped off at adventure tourism company Atlantic Outlook where they experienced the ocean like never before and set out on a kayaking mission to try and find some dolphins.

Thereafter they hopped on a tandem bicycle and set out to take in Sea Point’s beautiful promenade, offset by the sweet ocean breeze and sea spray.

It goes without saying that the time on the water, view of Table Mountain and the glorious summer’s day blew the Joburg boys away.

Dining with French / Italian Flair

Mo and Luyanda wrapped up their Cape Town adventure with a delicious meal at Societi Bistro, a contemporary French and Italian eatery housed in a Georgian-style hilltop mansion.

Their menu consisted of a Fillet au Poivre with pepper sauce and butter wilted spinach,  and risotto prepared with tomato and brandy that was then served with de-shelled prawns.

The delectable dishes at the cosy Capetonian hangout proved to be the perfect end to an unforgettable day for the friends.

Societi Bistro is situated at 50 Orange Street, Gardens, Cape Town, South Africa. They’re open Mondays to Saturdays from 12:00 to 22:00, and can be contacted on +27 21 42 42 100 | societi.co.za
