MEET TIKTOK’S HAIRY ECO-FAIRY, KELSEY MAGGOTT, AND CAKING MISS SA FINALIST, CATHERINE GROENEWALD

Get inspired to live your truth by creative South African Gen-Z’s Kelsey Maggott and Catherine Groenewald.

Two of Gen-Z’s most colourful, self-confident South African creatives are TikTok star Kelsey Maggott a.k.a. The Hairy Eco-Fairy and her friend Catherine Groenewald – online bakery owner, podcaster anda Miss S.A. 2021 Top 10 finalist.

Like Kelsey who has earned one and a half million followers on TikTok, Catherine is fast becoming a media sensation for her baking, and it’s her perseverance which she credits as being her superpower.

Catherine has a B Com Visual Communications degree, having majored in graphic design. She’s also a barre fitness instructor and full-time model who has recently added baking to her skills repertoire upon starting her online business called Delish Bakery during lockdown.

As a model and Miss SA finalist she believes in being ‘confidently’ beautiful – no add-ons or filters – which is what Kelsey is all about.

Capetonian TikTok sensation, Kelsey Maggott, has been changing up the game by championing the humanity of women through her content. By visibly embracing her own body hair, she challenges the societal expectation that women should shave and the mass social shaming and violence against women who exercise their choice not to.

In addition to managing her TikTok account, she is content creator for Kloudt Media, has an undergraduate degree in Multimedia Production and an Honours degree in Religious Studies.

Central to the message of this Eco-Fairy is another cause – sustainability – and the thrifting approach to fashion has been an eye opener for her million and a half followers. To Kelsey the benefits are clear in choosing preloved or slow fashion instead of fast fashion with its emphasis on the new and latest.

For both Catherine and Kelsey, it’s as important to put down your phone, look up, get out, live life in full colour, and in the moment as it is to live authentically and in your own truth.
