TLHALEFANG MOELETSI’S CUSTOM CRAFTED BAGS ROVE THE POWER OF HERITAGE IN BUSINESS
Being open to every African design tradition is key for Tlhalafeng Moeletsi’s hit leather goods brand. We find out more.
An entrepreneurial spirit saw Tlhalefang Moeletsi turn an everyday problem into a custom, leather, hand-made solution. Looking for a backpack to match his African, vintage tastes and then realising that none existed, had him soon sourcing materials, an artisan and watched his own design come to life.
His brand Mebala in collaboration with stylist and desiger Avuyile Dume fills the customisation model on a large scale by offering a range that can be fully customised and personalised.
“We try not to have boundaries so we can allow ourselves to be inspired by everything and anything,” shares Tlhalefang.
“Mebala is by African’s, and for the world. We give our clients the platform for them to expressed their voices through the designs. We work with them in a collaborative effort to make custom designs,” comments Avuyile.
Premium leather crafting is a labour-intensive process which sees Mebala creating quality jobs in a sustainable way and having a knock-on effect that’s multiplying growth in the industry.
