SPIRITGIRL: SUSTAINABLE ACTIVEWEAR FOR THE CONSCIOUS CLIENT
Discover SpiritGirl Activewear, a brand designed for women who are passionate about living sustainably.
After spending many years in the yachting industry and event industry Leigh Sarembeck, founder and owner of SpiritGirl Activewear,
saw the negative impact humans were having on both the ocean and the planet.
The amount of waste we as human produce bothered Leigh but also inspired her to do something about it.
While concerned about the environment, the avid yogi also realised that there was a gap in the market for sustainable active women’s wear.
“I was actually struggling to find cool fun yoga wear and the stuff that I did find wasn’t great,” she explains, “we heard about countries in America that were making activewear out of recycled fabric and we knew there was a gap in the market for that product.”
From that, SpiritGirl Activewear came to life.
“I wanted to create a brand that was sustainable and motivated women but also made people aware of ocean conservation,” she explains.
Leigh joined forces with Kirstin Henry, Founder and Owner of Victoria, a development agency that works with brands to help them run their designs into production.
“Our goal as a company is to help fashion designers or people outside of the industry create clothing labels that are sustainable, that work well in the industry and to get them to be the best in the market,” says Kirstin.
The fabric used in the patterned SpiritGirl Activewear is recycled polyester made from recycled plastic bottles while their non-printed collection is made of recycled nylon that is generated from the fishing nets that end up in the ocean.
