DANIEL AND ROLENE STRAUSS ESCAPE TO SCARBOROUGH’S INDIGENOUS FOREST

Escape to the magnificent Synergy Treehouse in Scarborough with Rolene and Daniel Strauss who share the secret to their romance before enjoying seaweed prepared in 10 different ways.

Scarborough, with its picturesque landscape and calming atmosphere, has become a perfect location for those looking for a break away from the busyness of everyday life.

It’s also the spot former Miss World, Rolene Strauss, and her serial entrepreneur husband, Daniel, decided to have a couple’s retreat. This year, the wonderful couple will be celebrating 6 years of marriage and picture book romance that included lots of dedication and work.

Rolene and Daniel first met when Rolene went out dancing with her best friend. While on the dance floor, a guy came up to her and told her that she looks intelligent.

“That blew my mind because you know sometimes I hear people say ‘you look beautiful’ or ‘you are beautiful’ but ‘you’re intelligent’ was something different.”

From that first encounter, she knew that she wanted to get to know this man better, and this man was Daniel. The pair started dating soon after.

It was during this time that Rolene mentioned that she wanted to enter the Miss South Africa contest but that meant a stumbling block for the blooming couple.

“We knew that by entering Miss South Africa, we had to keep our relationship secret.”

Despite this, Daniel encouraged Rolene’s dreams and supported her decision to enter Miss South Africa so they decided to enter together, as a team.

When Rolene went on to win Miss South Africa in 2014, the couple decided to keep their relationship out of the public eye.

The couple wed in 2016. The first year was not considered the typical fairy-tale as they spent the year on opposite sides of the country because Daniel’s work was based in Cape Town while Rolene was completing her final year of medicine in Bloemfontein.

“This is my fairy tale story and even though a lot of things we went through might be seen as hiccups or challenges, those are still the things that make us who we are today.”

The dynamic duo have come a long way since and are stronger for it – with further qualifications behind their names, two beautiful sons and a successful coaching business.

That said, a little break away to unwind is welcome from time to time. And what better place to do that than at Synergy Treehouse.

Hidden in an indigenous hillside forest, the luxury escape provides magical ocean views, beautiful balau walkways and breathtaking architecture. It’s the perfect place to rest, breathe and take some time to be at peace with oneself.

Synergy Treehouse has much to offer its guests but it’s pride and joy is most certainly its garden that encourages guests to reconnect with nature.

Some of the freshest perspectives are also gained by stepping away from your focus and setting your sub-conscious free, and in this case it was a journey into a local and sustainable seafood which Chef Phil Mansergh specialises in cooking, most notably  seaweed.

If kelp was never on your list of options for a romantic dinner for two, that may be about to change. Daniel and Rolene went with the new and their feedback was rather positive.
