As part of the Capitec Hooked on Helping episode on The Insider SA, viewers of the show as well as the general public are encouraged to donate wool towards the Capitec Hooked on Helping initiative, this initiative has received the backing of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.
Capitec staff and Knitwits for Madiba uses this wool to make blankets, scarves and beanies to donate to South Africans in need. Capitec staff give of their time and skill, they teach each other to crochet, thereby forming stronger teams and learning to work together. To see the blanket you made in your home being given to a person in need, makes us all realise a colourful blanket made with your own hands can give someone comfort and warmth.
Founder of 67 Blankets Carolyn Steyn says: “We encourage all South Africans to donate wool to both these worthy causes. Together we can knit lives together.”
Who benefits form the wool?
All wool donated will be allocated to Capitec Hooked on Helping volunteers and 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, who will crochet blankets that are going to be donated to vulnerable women and children.
