EXPERIENCE ROMANCE ON THE CHOBE WITH QINISO VAN DAMME AND GARETH EHRET

Since meeting Qiniso van Damme and Gareth Ehret on the Zambezi last month, the dry Winter season has fully set in, and they’d followed the great herds of elephant to this wonderland on the water.

We joined Qiniso and Gareth as they arrived at their destination – Chobe Marina Lodge. Located along the banks of the mighty Chobe River, within the town of Kasane, lies Chobe Marina Lodge.

“This place has got a very unique look and feel, it’s almost like an African rainforest,” exclaims Gareth. With its magnificent location directly on the water, Chobe Marina Lodge has become a “must visit” destination for visitors of Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia.

Chobe Marina Lodge in Botswana

From what feels like a suite in a giant tree-house, anywhere you wander along this riverfront you hear four hundred and fifty species of birdlife. The sound of drumming also caught the couple’s attention.

The couple’s first stop was at the Mabele cultural village in the Chobe National Park where they met some of the locals that welcomed them with open arms.

To its traditional associations with honour and bravery, the Ehret surname can now add rhythm. As for the village, it’s famed for weaving. We were fortunate enough to get a masterclass in basket making.

Gareth Ehret busted out his moves

A weekend here among the people of Northern Botswana brought home just how much we share with our neighbours and how arbitrary our modern borders really are.

“Mabele Village is one of five villages in the area and I think my favourite part is the similarities,” explains Qiniso, “the similarities for me just make the whole continent feel like home.”

For Gareth, busting those moves might’ve pulled a muscle so a couple’s massage was most welcome. As the couple relaxed by the pool with some drinks, they opened up about their romance. The next stop was river cruise.

Wonder soon turned to awe as they came across a family of elephant at the floating salad bar.

Now pursuing a full-time acting career, Gareth felt like he was starring in a Hollywood epic, with his real-life leading lady.

We seemed to remember these two having endless appetites from the last time we met, and they did not disappoint.

To rekindle the romance this Winter, get away IN Africa, and let’s keep the homefires burning.
