CAPITEC CLIENT ALL ABUZZ AS HE WORKS TOWARDS HIS BIG DREAM TO LIVE BETTER AND BEE BETTER

Zain Rehman shares his passion for beekeeping and his dreams to grow his bee colony with help from his banking partner

Capitec client, Zain Rehman, was born in Pietermaritzburg and raised in the coastal KZN town of Port Shepstone. Initially, he planned a career in law, but, alongside working in his father’s furniture manufacturing business, he finds himself now drawn to a passion for beekeeping. With all the tools, enough space, the skills and a bucketload of ambition, this entrepreneur is on a mission to build and manage 200 hives for pollination. In a world where bee populations are under severe pressure and strain, there is no doubt, this is a big dream and a worthy mission.

Despite the challenges of the current economy and business, Zain, a Capitec customer for over 2 years, knows his bank provides him with what he needs to take on this challenge and helps him take care of all his banking with ease and simplicity – from buying airtime to making secure purchases with his virtual card.

Unlike banking with Capitec, beekeeping is anything but simple and straightforward. Years of apprenticing in his dad’s furniture business have equipped him well with the craftsmanship required for this line of work.

The enthusiastic hobbyist takes us through the structure and workings of a beehive – as he assembles one more hive closer his target in his workshop. As he shares with us the intricasies and knowledge of building a hive and hive life that he has gained, his commitment to his bee dream is clear. Even when he’s not working, a thrill for adventure and a passion for the great outdoors keeps him busy. It’s convenient that his chosen profession affords him so much time in nature. After assembling the hive, the beekeeper (and nervous cameraman in tow) suit up and take us through a hive inspection to see if there is any honey to harvest – a delicious by-product of this work which he especially enjoys over fresh fruit.

At the end of the day though, Zain explains the real driving force behind his mission, “Bees do pollination, so, if there is no pollination, there is no food. If there is no food, ultimately, we do not exist. So, bees play a very integral part of the food chain of mankind.” And sure, it is hard work building your own business and chasing your dreams, but being able to taste the fruits of your labour on a daily basis, Zain admits, is pretty sweet and he takes comfort in knowing that Capitec Bank is available to simplify banking needs, allowing him to live better and dream big.
