Capitec and Pick n Pay send social media influencers on a trolley dash for charity
Being able to live better means we’re in a stronger place to invest in those around us. This generous spirit is one Capitec has set out to help make a habit. The bank is committed to creating award-winning digital solutions for its over 20 million clients to help them save, prosper, and spread that prosperity. To celebrate a year into the Live Better campaign, the bank saw this as the perfect opportunity to give back.
PR and Events Manager at Capitec, Chandré Matlala, tells us a little about their plan to mark the occasion, “We are visiting our partner, Pick n Pay, and are bringing a few of our influencer friends along to do a trolley dash in celebration of our first anniversary of our Live Better program. The program is really aimed at putting real cash back into our clients’ pockets.”
The event’s objective was for each influencer to do a mad dash in a selected Pick n Pay store for the charity of their choice. Each influencer was given 3 minutes to fill their trolley to the value of two thousand Rand, make it to the till point, and make a quick, seamless Capitec payment. Celebrating its 56th birthday this year, supporting, investing, and reinvesting in communities is a practice that Pick n Pay strongly believes in, so getting behind this campaign was an easy choice for the retail giant.

As one of Capitec’s partners, clients are easily able to log onto the app, click on vouchers and pay for a voucher for a loved one or a friend that they can send them for Pick n Pay and Pick n Pay clothing. To find out more, visit https://www.capitecbank.co.za/personal/transact/buy-vouchers/.
Leading content creators Scott Garder, Babalwa Mcaciso, and Jodie and Justine Peterson were the social media personalities chosen to shop at high speed for a charity close to their hearts. The charities that would receive the groceries ranged from a safe house for abused, abandoned, and neglected babies and toddlers, a non-profit project that aims to bridge the gap between high-school education and full-time employment for disadvantaged girls, and a church outreach program in Langa that supports the local community.
After talking a good game, the group was ready to get set and go! It was 3 minutes of high excitement, adrenaline, strategic steering, and a fumble that cost someone first place. Don’t miss The Insider SA this week to catch all the action and results.

Capitec is all about giving back and has numerous CSI initiatives they take part in. Through this event and the many other initiatives, both Capitec and Pick n Pay would like to inspire other organisations and individuals to join in raising funds and helping those in need and want to encourage South Africa to have the spirit of giving back.
