MEET INTERIOR DESIGN DUO NKOSINATHI DLAMINI AND FARAI CHINYA
Discover how a passion for design and well curated spaces turned into a business venture.
Nkosinathi Dlamini and Farai Chinya are friends who’ve become business partners by combining their skills to create Nkosinathi Dlamini Design Studios.
Retrenchments in the midst of the global pandemic, was the push the duo needed to establish the interior design business and take the world by storm. We caught up with them to learn more about the inspiration behind their exciting new business venture.
“We saw an opportunity in people’s homes, where they realised that they needed their spaced to also be comfortable to work from home and encourage them to come to us for professional help,” comments founder Nkosinathi Dlamini.
“Lockdown had people spending more time at home, and many soon realising that their personal interior spaces needed professional help. They also needed to transition from working from the office, to work from home. We realised we could help with this transition by creating beautiful spaces that would be functional for a diverse number of people and tasks,” says Farai Chinya, Interior Designer and Creative Director.
The two gave us a tour of one of their latest projects, an apartment in Johannesburg that they’ve dubbed The African Beach House.
The interior is a moody space yet manages to still be light and airy. It boasts carefully curated wallpaper, light fittings, and custom mirrors, artwork and furniture.
A cosy yet stylish space was created outside; representative of a young couple that was homebound due to COVID. A clever choice of fabric, materials and plants helped extend the space outdoors and ensure it was weatherproof.
Nkosinathi and Farai understand the benefits of appreciating great design.
“Beautifully decorated spaces give off beautiful energy. The moment you are living in a beautiful space, your mood automatically changes and you’re happy and more relaxed. It makes you fulfill your dreams a lot easier,” explains Farai.
This shared friendship as well as a passion and talent for design is sure to set Nkosinathi Dlamini and Farai Chinya on a path of success.
